Swimmer feared dead is found safe

A SWIMMER feared drowned off the NSW Central Coast has been found safe and well on dry land.

The man had been last seen walking into the water in Cabbage Tree Bay at Norah Head about 4pm (AEDT) on Saturday.

Another swimmer became concerned for the man's welfare when he failed to return to the shore and collect his belongings.

Police were alerted on Sunday and immediately launched a search.

It continued on Tuesday morning but was hampered by wild weather, with police holding little hope the man had survived days in the water.

However, a member of the public contacted police later in the day, telling them they believed a man staying with them during the wet weather was the person police were looking for.

Officers spoke with the man who confirmed that he had gone for a swim and when he returned to the beach he couldn't find his gear.
